The Carthage Community Gardens (CCG) is a self-sustaining project of the Carthage Civic League. Its members are either from the community of Carthage or associated with it. It is located behind the Carthage School along 73 rd St. Each gardener comes with their own gardening skills and abilities. Work session are vital to the community garden’s upkeep and philosophy. These sessions usually are no longer then one hour. We have a social gathering with the gardeners after each meeting. This is a time for gardeners to get to know each other, share gardening ideas, recipes and sometimes a taste of the harvest. Date to be announced.

Collective Garden Program (CGP)

The Collective Garden Program (CGP) enrollment starts December and ends in May. The CGP gardeners are a group of households who not only harvest from the beds they maintain, but also from all the other beds in the program. Each household is assigned a plant family and maintain those beds. The Garden Coordinator (GC) is available for guidance as need.  Common beds with produce like asparagus, grapes, strawberry and herbs are also available to harvest. Fees include planting supplies, trellises, organic fertilizer, and cover crops. Fees for 2020 are $40.

Individual Garden Plots

Individual Beds (IB) open in March and close in November. Gardens will be assigned by giving the past gardeners first choice to claim their previous year’s beds. After a reasonable opportunity to reclaim beds, unclaimed beds will be assigned by first come first served basis. IB fees are based on square footage of the assigned bed divided by 5.15 and rounded to the nearest dollar. Help with organic fertilizers, pest control along with a fall cover crop are included in the fees. IB gardeners also have the opportunity to harvest from the common beds producing herbs, strawberries, grapes, raspberries, and blueberries. Some seeds may be available.
